Our Musical Ensembles
Tuesday Musicale features three exceptional ensembles: a Women's Chorus and two acclaimed Handbell groups that bring joy to our community throughout the year.
Adele Thomas Ringers
Adele Thomas Ringers is comprised of 12 musicians who play five octaves of handbells. The group enjoys working on music for Club programs and outside events. Auditioned members rehearse on Tuesday mornings.
Director: Judy Phillips
Judy Phillips of the Detroit area earned a Bachelor's of Music degree in Public School music from Western Michigan University as an oboe major. Her Master of Church Music degree was earned from Concordia University, Wisconsin with a handbell emphasis. There she studied handbell composition with Arnold Sherman.
Judy is a retired elementary general music teacher from the Warren Consolidated Schools in Warren, Michigan. She is an accomplished handbell music composer and also enjoys directing and playing bells.
Women's Chorus
The Chorus is always open to new members who enjoy singing: 1st soprano, 2nd soprano, 1st alto and 2nd alto. The Chorus presents two major programs each year in December and May. The chorus also performs at the Michigan Federation of Music Clubs Convention each May.
Director: Dorothy Berry (Dodie)
Dorothy Berry has been the director for twenty years. She holds Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from the University of Michigan and the University of Colorado, respectively. She has appeared in or directed numerous musical productions. She is also a member of the Cantata Academy of Detroit and has been a soloist with the Detroit Symphony.
Bellissima!
Bellissima! is an auditioned handbell ensemble. It performs twice a year for the Club and is well known in handbell circles. It performs in a number of community venues including libraries, churches, care facilities, AGEHR events and the MFMC conventions. Most recently, they performed in an Opera Potpourri with The Birmingham Musicale.
Directed by Judy Phillips, an accomplished composer, the group rehearses Tuesday evenings throughout the season.
